Dr. Tweedie is a Research Associate in the Arctic Ecology Laboratory in the Department of Plant Biology. He manages the Forecasting Arctic Vegetation (FAV) project, which aims to forecast arctic vegetation change with climate change on the North Slope of Alaska. This project has close links with the International Tundra Experiment (ITEX) and incorporates analysis of trends in climate, long term (+50 years) observations of vegetation change in permanently marked plots and manipulative experiments that warm the tundra to model arctic vegetation change at both the plant and community level. Dr. Tweedie also manages the GIS facility at the AEL and is involved in all of the collaborative projects the AEL is involved with.

Dr. Tweedie grew up in Brisbane, the state capital of Queensland in Australia where his higher education was undertaken at The University of Queensland. His honors degree examined the ecology of vascular epiphytes in sub tropical rain forest and his PhD examined climate change trends and the potential impact of climate change on terrestrial ecosystem structure and function on subantarctic Macquarie Island, the site of one of Australia's four permanently occupied Antarctic bases. Dr.Tweedie also has a working ecological knowledge of a wide range of Australian terrestrial ecosystems, having worked as a conservation officer for the Queensland Department of Environment and tutored several field biology classes at The University of Queensland.
