Decadal Micro-Topographic Change in Tundra Near Point Barrow, Alaska
Devan R. Berry, Craig E. Tweedie, Robert D. Hollister and Patrick J. WebberMethods: Elevation measurements where collected on the former IBP Topographical Grid site 4 and the Micro-Topographical Grid located within it. The former IBP grid is approximately 390 meters by 110 meters, while the Micro grid is 34 meters by 1 meter. The large grid has been established on a 10 meter grid design, while the small grid was established with a 0.5 meter design. Measurements of elevation were made using a surveyor's level and stadia rod, at each grid point.
The same zero point used in 1973 was also used in 2001. Data was managed in Microsoft Access relational database and manipulated in Arcview GIS version 3.2 using 3D analyst and spatial analyst extensions.
Overlays for elevation were made for both grids. Trends in changes in relative elevation between 1973 and 2001 have been assessed.
