Recovery of Active Layer following Vehicle Disturbance Near Barrow, Alaska
Dustin R. Bronson, Craig E. Tweedie, Steven P. Rewa, Robert D. Hollister, Patrick J. WebberConclusion:
- The slowest rates of active layer recovery were recorded in sites with the driest soils. The fastest recovery appears to have occurred in wet sites.
- The most important factor in recovery rate besides moisture appears to be time. All dry sites that showed damage were of the younger CRREL trail while the old CRREL trail showed no obvious patterns of vehicular disturbance.
- It is likely that disturbance recovery is higher at wet sites compared to dry sites because of greater rebound potential and higher vegetative productivity.
