Researchers present at IAGLR conference in Ann Arbor

On May 25, 2005, many researchers working on diverse parts of the MRW project met at the International Association for Great Lakes research conference in Ann Arbor, MI to present talks in a special session on the Muskegon River. It was inspiring to see so many great projects finally coming together, and it provided an opportunity to plan for future collaborations. Check out some of our presentations online!

MWRP Site gets a facelift

Check out our new website! Our overall goal was to provide a user-friendly interface where watershed stakeholders, and other interested parties, could select a site of interest in the watershed, and view its environmental report card.  Each site will be assessed for overall quality, which will be displayed using our “Environmental Quality Meter” (make this a LINK to the explanation), and there are also individual reports on land use, chemistry and biology.

Scientists continue research on lower Muskegon River

As an addendum to GLFT -funded research on the Muskegon River (2001-2003), project timetables were extended into 2006 to integrate new work focused on understanding and modeling the lower river and coastal fishery. This expanded project will assess and model relationships between lower river fisheries, habitat dynamics, and sustainable development in the Muskegon Basin by integrating regional fisheries and coastal resources into the Ecological Assessment and Ecosystem Modeling programs of the Muskegon Initiative.  These analyses will strengthen both the current GLFT Muskegon Initiative, and to develop a quantitative understanding of river and coastal habitat management options applicable throughout the Great Lakes
