COURSE DESCRIPTION AND OBJECTIVES

This interdisciplinary course will examine the dynamics of the Earth System that supports life. The components of the system include the Lithosphere, the Atmosphere, the Hydrosphere, and the Sociosphere. We will study how these dynamics affect the organisms that utilize the components of the Earth System for their life support. We will also see how biotic systems influence the Earth System components. After participation in this course, students will have a greater.

  1. Appreciaton for the Earth System at various temporal and spatial scales.
  2. Understanding of the interactions between the major components of the Biosphere.

Appreciation of the need for multi-disciplinary skills for understanding the Earth System
