Welcome to the Applied Geochemistry Programs at Michigan State University. Applied Geochemistry is the application of chemical and geochemical principles to address environmental, ecological, energy, and resource issues and includes basic research. Our program leads to M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Environmental Geosciences or M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Geological Sciences (with an Environmental Geosciences specialization). Topics of research and education include:
inorganic/organic/isotopic geochemistry of water (precipitation, groundwater, rivers, lakes, oceans, hypersaline, brine), sediments (freshwater, marine, and hypersaline environments), soils, minerals, and micro-macro biota; |

environmental geochemistry; |
|
trophic transfer of nutrients and environmental contaminants; |
|
dissolved organic-trace metal interactions; |
|
applications of GIS to geochemistry of watersheds; |
|
geochemical cycles; |
|
environmental geochemistry and health; |
|
mineral weathering; and |
|
applications of microbiology to solve environmental problems such as bioremediation and redox zonation. |
